If you haven't been to the Civic Center for Roller Derby yet, you need to correct that this Saturday because the Blue Ridge Roller Girls have a double header that starts at 4:00 p.m.
I went to see the gals last year at Carrier Park and had a bunch of old-skool fun. This summer, they improved it even more by moving to the Civic Center (where you can buy beer) and I've been to every bout this season.
Pictured above is one of the reasons I like going. This gal skates under the name Krush Groove (my favorite of the 80's break dance trinity that also includes Breakin' and Beat Street) and last time me and Cap'n Magic were her unofficial fan club (even though he preferred Caslamity Jane over KG). I talked to her for a few minutes before the bout last time and she posed for a photo with me, then even had Cap'n take one of us with her camera.
All the ladies seem really nice and you should come out to support them.
