The Kingpins of Eagle Street

Pictured above are two of the things I miss the most in downtown Asheville: Jay Neal (left) of Eagle Street Market and my barber (on the right) Smooth.

Jay is the proprietor of Eagle Street Market and was always fun to talk to about the goings on and my lack of a love life. Smooth is a fountain of wisdom on so many things I don't even know where to begin.

Jay's lady is about to give birth to his first child any day now and I wish him all the best. They say fatherhood changes a person, but I think it will only make this guy even cooler than he already is.

Smooth and Jay got me involved in the Urban Trail Block Party (go to www.thehumanmovement.org for more info) and I hope to write about it for at least one local publication soon.

If you are downtown and need a snack, stop by "downtown's best kept secret" and give Jay your money. If you need a haircut or some life lessons, sit in Smooth's chair and open your mind to what he has to say.

I miss them both, but hopefully I will be working downtown again soon.
